The Face of Mars Cover Campaign Starts September 11th
First Single “Kings and Queens” at Modern Rock Radio Early Oct
Following up on their incredibly successful sophomore release, A Beautiful Lie, multi-platinum rock band Thirty Seconds To Mars are hard at work on their highly anticipated upcoming record, “THIS IS WAR” (EMI’s Virgin Records) set to hit on November 24th. The album was produced by Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails), Steve Lillywhite (The Rolling Stones, U2) and Thirty Seconds To Mars. First single Kings and Queens at modern rock radio early next month. Fall tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
In an innovative and exciting move, Thirty Seconds to Mars’ upcoming release, This Is War, will have 2000 different album covers featuring individual photos of fans from around the world. Starting Thursday, September 11th at 12pm PDT fans will be able to submit photos to be used for the covers by pointing their browser to www.thirtysecondstomars.com. The first 2000 photos to be uploaded that follow the proper specifications will become album covers. The campaign will run until 2000 usable covers have been uploaded to [email protected].
Thirty Seconds To Mars’ Jared Leto (vocals, guitar, songwriter), Shannon Leto (drums) and Tomo Miličević (guitar) teamed up with their fan community, The Echelon, earlier this year to record sounds for the upcoming record in a groundbreaking event they dubbed, “The Summit”. The band invited The Echelon members to travel to Los Angeles to take part in an impromptu recording session at Hollywood’s Avalon Club. It was so successful that since then Thirty Seconds to Mars decided to hold summits in 8 more countries across the world (Australia, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Canada) in order to give their biggest supporters an opportunity to be a part of their new album.
With over 100 million views on YouTube, 40 million plays on MySpace and more than one million fans on iLike/Facebook, Thirty Seconds To Mars have always been quick to embrace digital culture and with the immense success they had with The Summit, decided to use that same digital technology to offer their fans a chance to get involved in the record making process through Twitter as well. The Digital Summit kicked off on Monday, August 10th and through the twitvid.com technology allowed fans to record sounds and vocals from their personal computers and mobile devices for inclusion on the album. The Digital Summit was a top 10 trending topic on Twitter during the two week promotion, garnering sixty thousand page views and 3000 unique sound recordings submitted from fans across the world.
Formed by brothers Jared and Shannon Leto, Thirty Seconds to Mars have won numerous awards and accolades, including an MTV Video Music Award, three MTV EMA’s, an MTV Latin and Asia Award, a Fuse Award, and three Kerrang! Awards. Thirty Seconds to Mars’ sophomore record, A Beautiful Lie hit platinum status after almost two years of heavy touring and winning fans over, one by one. Will we ever get a DVD of all the live footage you guys have filmed over the years.. dating back to 2002 to present?
Yes we will release it one day soon. We are currently at work on a film focused more on the time and circumstances during "THIS IS WAR".
Has there ever been a song written that has moved you so much you wish you had written it yourself? Or one that has inspired you to write a song of your own just because it of it's influence, either lyrically or musically?
We don't really wish we had written others songs, but lots of artists have inspired us. From Sigur Ros to Radiohead to The Cure.
What visual artists inspire your music? (i.e. Shepard Fairey, etc.) What are each of your favorite artists?
DAMIEN HIRST, LARRY SLEZAK, CHAPMAN BROTHERS, ANDY WARHOL, DALI ETC -J
What do you do to relax or get rid of stress?

Mostly the use of war is a metaphor that represents for us the failure of achievement, of communication, or compromise. Battle, conflict, and
dissent have been important elements worthy of examination but as important are joy, celebration, and good ol' optimism.
How different has the sound changed, rather progressed, since what fans were able to hear at the LA summit? story behind/explanation of the thisiswar.us/ logo, any relation to Plato's AIR symbol?
YES. The symbol for air also represents for me matters of the spirit.
Faith is an important theme explored in this album.

Follow the link to thisiswar.us and download the 30ART.zip file for available art files that you can use to help create your sticker art. Don't feel required to use all of the images provided or any of them at all. These files are being provided to help you, but it's up to you to create whatever you want.
Here are a few basic tips to ensure your design will be considered:
1. Don't use any copyrighted images or images you did not create
2. Limit your design to 4 colors or less
3. No Lens Flare
4. Consider previous Thirty Seconds to Mars artwork
5. Avoid unnecessary text

30STM планируют "Мощный" сингл и короткометражный фильм
Джаред Лето говорит, что название альбома ещё не утверждено
Несмотря на то, что уже несколько месяцев утверждают, что альбом будет называться "This Is War" - в какой-то мере намек на долгоиграющую (но уже закончившуюся) юридическую баталию с бывшим лейблом - но, оказывается, все ещё под вопросом.
"С названием на 100 процентов ещё не решили, но я думаю, что когда закончим альбом, я либо сяду и на 1000 процентов буду уверен в This Is War, или пойду дальше, - рассказал Джаред. - Это название во многом нам подходит, оно хорошо отражает тот период времени, когда мы работали над альбомом, и музыкально, и визуально".
Лето сказал, что группа уже "в самом, самом конце" записи альбома, и что он появится в магазинах до конца года. For those of you that didn't have a chance to make it to any of The Summit's around the globe, we are, as promised, inviting you to join us in this amazing recording experiment online. The Digital Summit will be launching on Monday, August 3rd 2009. By participating in The Digital Summit you will be able to upload video of yourself recording vocals and sounds from your personal computer for inclusion on our new record, as well as being able to participate in the documentary we've been filming throughout the entire making of this album by answering interview questions. Twitter will be a major component of The Digital Summit, so if you don't already have a Twitter account you will need to sign up for one in order to participate and follow MARS. We will disseminate explicit details and make additional information on The Digital Summit available to you upon launch.
